Structural Carpenter 

SALARY: 
$22.37/hr. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 
To be selected for a position, an applicant must (1) meet the minimum requirements of the job posting, (2) pass a written exam (if applicable), (3) satisfy a background check (which may be extensive), (4) pass an oral interview, during which the interviewer(s) will further evaluate the applicant’s qualifications and (5) provide certified transcripts, certifications, and/or license upon candidate processing and/or transfer, if the position requires a degree, certification, and/or license.
Internal Applicants who are current employees must have worked in their current position long enough to pass probation to be eligible to apply for the position. In addition, applicants are also subjected to an internal investigation which includes an evaluation of their work record, safety and discipline records, their performance assessments and time and attendance records (including late starts and early quits) for the preceding 12 months. (Authorized absences will not be included for purposes of assessing whether attendance is satisfactory.) 

EDUCATION: 
High School graduate or equivalent is required. 

EXPERIENCE: 
Five (5) years experience in the trade of Carpenter is required. 

THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES ARE REQUIRED/DESIRED: 
A main function of this position is to conduct site inspections, repairs/maintenance at various Tollway facilities during regular work hours as well as subject to being "on-call". This is accomplished by incumbent use of a Tollway vehicle to travel to and from respective sites. Therefore, a Valid Driver’s License is required. Experience in the operation of routers, band and scroll saws, drill presses, are required. Also, must have experience in using portable drills, clippers, joiners, shavers, sanders, nailers and combination type saws.
Must have skills in performing routine maintenance to equipment; ability to use advance shop mathematics to plan, compute and layout more complex projects is required. Must have the ability to read and follow independently in order to evaluate problems and determine how and what repairs need to be made. Knowledge and skill with all types of locks is desirable.
Must be able to frequently climb ladders, bend and lift up to 100 pounds during duration of an eight (8) hour shift. Must be able to keep inventory records, understand technical information, complete work orders and have the ability to read blueprints and diagrams. Must be available for 24/7 emergency call outs including weekends and holidays. Must pass a carpenters written exam with a score of 75% or higher in order to take a practical test that will also require a passing score of 75%. Providing the practical test is passed with a 75%, applicants are granted an interview.
